After completing the huge undertaking that was the total solar eclipse of April 2024, we didn’t feel the need to go big for the partial solar eclipse of March 29, 2025. But we also didn’t want to ignore northern communities that would see a great partial eclipse with over 85% of the Sun covered by the Moon.

Through partnerships with different organisations and people, we were able to distribute more than 5,000 free eclipse glasses to 16 communities in Nunavut, northern Quebec (Nunavik and Côte-Nord) and Labrador. We repackaged our existing eclipse educational materials and reached more than 30 classrooms. Online training was co-presented by our Director, Julie Bolduc-Duval, and our friend Melanie Demers —a Mohawk astronomer who collaborated with us in 2024. We were excited to work with her again, and it was a genuine pleasure to present the eclipse with a Two-Eyed Seeing approach. Niawen’kó:wa Melanie!
We also want to thank the partners who made this project possible: Connected North, Institut Tshakapesh, and the Chair for Inclusion in Science and Engineering - Atlantic. We’re lucky to have such amazing community partners who also happen to be great friends. When we bring our expertise together, we can make an even bigger impact!
Special thanks to the Rochester Museum & Science Center who donated the glasses for our project.
