Teaching the Universe 2026 in Newfoundland

Discover engaging educational resources and explore the Earth-Moon-Sun system, the solar system, light and optics, and more. You’ll leave the workshop with ready-to-use classroom activities and a renewed sense of cosmic inspiration! This free workshop is open to all teachers and educators, formal and informal, with a special focus on elementary school educators (K-6). 9:00 - 9:45: Earth-Moon-Sun system (seasons, phases of the moon, eclipses)

9:45 - 10:15: Size, scale, and composition of the solar system (classification of objects)

10:15 - 10:40: Magnetism (magnetic materials, magnetic force, magnetic field lines)

10:40 - 11:00: BREAK

11:00 - 11:25: Light & Optics (colour, diffraction, reflection, refraction)

11:25 - 11:45: Observing the Night sky (constellations, light pollution)

11:45 - 12:00 Closing discussion - what topics do you need resources for or are of interest to you and your students?
